Meet our Team
Where it all began

Amy has always dreamed of owning her own “shop” – initially it was to be a greeting card store, but times have changed since the 80’s, when this dream started. After 29 years in banking and 18 years as a Simsbury resident, Amy decided to make her dream a reality - with the help of her husband, Jay, children Emma and Brady, rescue dog Cooper, and a cast of supportive family and friends. The Coffee Spot is Amy’s way of giving back, through serving happiness to the community that she proudly calls “home.”
An avid reader, Amy enjoys curling up with a good book, a cup of coffee or chai, and hunkering down to enjoy some “me” time. It is hard to find a place without distractions like laundry, cooking, or letting the dog out. And it is even harder to find a place with a welcoming atmosphere to meet up with friends over a cup of coffee and a scone, or to work remotely (as many of us have been doing since March 2020). So, Amy and Jay decided to build such a place in Simsbury: The Coffee Spot.
Since 2009, Amy has been the Principal/Owner of Sheehan Consulting, providing consumer protection services to banks, credit unions, and mortgage companies throughout CT and Western MA. Before owning her own business, Amy was VP and Compliance Officer at Liberty Bank in Middletown, CT (2006 – 2009) and SVP Compliance/Bank Secrecy Act Officer at Westbank in West Springfield, MA (2003 – 2006). Prior to that, Amy spent 12 years as a Bank Examiner with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) after graduating in 1991 from Wilkes University, with a BS in Accounting and a Management minor. Amy is an Advisory Board Member of the Theatre Guild of Simsbury, where she also performs (when COVID allows), and was a 15-year member of The Farmington Valley Chorus Chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Amy also served as a Girl Scout Leader for 7 years, co-chaired the annual SQL Book Fair for 2 years, chaired the Photography Committee for the HJMS production of “Beauty and the Beast,” and served as Parent Liaison Co-Chair for the HJMS production of “James and the Giant Peach.” Most recently, Amy assisted with the SHS Senior Celebrations Committee, helping to plan and deliver a memorable graduation for SHS’ Class of 2020.
Jay is a Senior Vice President and a Registered Professional Engineer with Woodard and Curran, where he has been employed since 1998. His current role is as a Business Development Leader, marketing and selling his company’s engineering services to municipalities throughout the United States. Jay serves as a Board member for various professional associations in both New England and nationwide, as well as been a member of the Simsbury’s Water Pollution Control Authority for 8 years. He has also coached Little League, YMCA Youth Basketball, Northern Lights Girls Hockey, volunteered for the Simsbury Cub Scouts, and plays drums in a local jam band.
Emma is a 2020 graduate of Simsbury High School and is currently a freshman at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, where she is studying Criminal Justice and Forensics. Brady is a sophomore at SHS and enjoys baseball, chorus, and video games. Cooper is the baby of the family, a 5-year-old rescue puppy who keeps the family from sleeping late in the mornings!
